XLIST.DCL file not wide enough.  Also not allowing Save or Edit

Xlist.dcl

I find the xlist command from express tools pretty useful, but the default width of the box is far too short to display uniclass layer names, particularly inside xrefs. In the past I modified a copy of the xlist.dcl file to increase the width from ’35’ to ‘200’ which was enough, and put the file in the first folder in my support path and AutoCAD would use that. Since moving to AutoCAD 2019, it’s no longer reading the custom file. The original file is in the program files directory, so I’d need Admin credentials.

I was able to solve this!

  • Made a copy of the xlist.dcl file in the Express folder.
  • Copied the copy of the file to C:\temp folder.
  • Edited the change that we wanted (make the width from 31 to 99)
  • Saved the file.
  • Copied the file back to the Express folder.
  • Renamed the original xlist.dcl file to xlist.dcl.original
  • Renamed the edited copy of the file to xlist.dcl

That worked. The box was wider and we could now read the entire path of the layer.
