3 years sober – SupportWomen.com on LinkedIn: #supportwomen #womenempowerment
“3 years ago on Christmas morning I decided to give myself the gift of sobriety.
Here are some things I’m reminded of as I reflect back on my recovery journey:
Going to therapy is an act of self-love
Alcohol will never make any bad situation better
Feeling my feelings is painful but not as painful as ignoring them
If I find myself trying to prove my worth to someone who makes me feel bad, I’m dumpster diving for love
The “bad” sides of me can also be the “good” sides of me. Everything isn’t black and white. I am neither “good” or “bad”. I am human
Denying my feelings is like pressing pause on my recovery journey
Toxic positivity can be dangerous for me. Admitting I’m sad is my pathway to happiness
Being sober doesn’t make everything better, but it helps me deal with everything better
Perfectionism is keeping one foot in the past and one foot in the future, pissing on the present
The way people treat me is a reflection of how they feel about themselves
Hurt people, Hurt people
Complaining about something without taking action to make changes is fear
Asking for help is courage
People want to help people who want to help themselves
The easiest and most compassionate way to show someone I care is by taking the time to listen
We are all on a journey walking each other home. Be Kind.” —Cheri Garcia
